The Hate Evil Hall Homestead Circa 1797

In 1797, a man named Hate Evil Hall built a center chimney cape at the top of a hill overlooking the Chandler River in Jonesboro, ME. Over the decades, an addition and a second story were added, the center chimney system was removed and replaced with a center hall and staircase. Today, the homestead reflects many different periods of architecture, which add to the charm and character. The surrounding 20 acres of land speak of a once bustling farm consisting of old apple trees, sprawling raspberries, and acres of open fields. Come stay with us; relax, explore, celebrate...

Guest Testimonials

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed the stay. Very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, and friendly hosts with a family feel. Great spot to explore Downeast Maine. We traveled easily to Roque Bluffs State Park, Cutler Public Land Preserve, Lubec, and Eastport.

What an absolute amazing place to stay while in the area for work! I spent 3 nights/4 days at the Inn and loved it! The owners Eric and Martha are so nice and personable you will feel like family by the time you leave. The Inn or the old Homestead is such a beautiful preserved piece of history! Looking forward to staying here again! Thank You!

A sweet inn owned by a wonderful family surrounded by gorgeous views. Our room was very nice with a comfy bed and crisp cotton sheets. We really enjoyed our two night stay. Not to forget the delicious breakfast served every morning. Just perfect!

The Chandler River Inn is as lovely and charming a country inn -- a B&B, really -- as you could ever hope to find. The house is gorgeously restored and decorated with very comfortable rooms and lovely views of the peaceful river out front. Martha is friendly, kind, and extremely helpful. Also in residence are her husband Eric, their two delightful kids, and Dixie the corgi. All contributed to our having a lovely and memorable stay. The home-cooked breakfast was wonderful.

It is a lovely bed and breakfast. The vintage decor is warm and homey, Our room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was spacey and immaculate. Breakfast was different and delicious every day and served by our Innkeepers and their children. There was plenty of places on the property to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors, We enjoyed sitting on the chairs overlooking the river and watching the osprey fish in the river. We would definitely go back.
